Types of Mindsight

Mindsight isn't a single, uniform sense - it shows up differently from student to student, and often several of these forms show up in the very same person as their training deepens. Here are the different flavors of "seeing without eyes" that tend to emerge along the way.

1. Edge Detection

Usually the very first form students pick up. It's a bit like echolocation for the eyes - you begin perceiving the outlines and edges of your surroundings without color or fine detail, almost like a black-and-white or sepia-toned image. It's enough to move confidently through a room, find a doorway, or avoid an obstacle, well before reading or colors ever come into the picture.

2. Snow Sense / Static Sense

A close cousin of edge detection: instead of smooth outlines, the dark appears as a field of shifting visual "snow," like the static on a detuned TV screen. Objects and edges don't stand out as clean lines - they show up as denser, more organized clumps of that same static, resolving into a low-resolution, colorless impression of the room. It's still edge and shape perception at its core, just textured rather than smooth.

3. Light Sense

A heightened sensitivity to light itself. Students with a strong light sense can tell, almost instantly and with total certainty, when something changes right in front of them - it's very hard to sneak anything past this one.

4. Dark-Adapted Vision

A striking early-stage experience where darkness suddenly looks fully lit, as if a light had been switched on in the room. Not true infrared color vision - just full visibility in what should be pitch black.

5. 360° Vision

Perceiving what's behind or above you, not just in front - expanding your field of perception well beyond the normal human range.

6. Hyperphantasia

An extremely vivid inner imagination - your mind's eye working in high definition. With training, touching, hearing, or smelling something can trigger a genuinely vivid internal image, rather than a vague impression. This is often the doorway into the more advanced forms below.

7. Prophantasia

Seeing an object as though it's right in front of you, regardless of where it actually is. Students at this stage can keep "seeing" something even after it's been moved to another room - as long as they don't consciously know it was moved.

8. Seeing Transparency

The ability to perceive through solid objects - a kind of x-ray vision. It's the same territory neurosurgeon Ben Carson is famously said to draw on when operating. Some students spontaneously develop this as their training progresses.

9. Telescopic & Micro Vision

Zooming perception - seeing things far away as if they were close, or noticing extremely small details that would normally be missed entirely.

Every student's path looks a little different - some open up edge detection first and stay there for months, others move through several of these forms within days. There's no wrong order, and no age or eyesight requirement. Sighted or blind, child or adult, the same abilities are available to you.
